If horror films ever lied even a pair of miles away from your interests, you're bound to be familiar with William Friedkin's 1973 landmark feature The Exorcist. You're probably also aware that the movie uses Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells as its soundtrack, a tune that became arguably as iconic as the film itself. But the Oldfield piece wasn't intended as part of the soundtrack from the get-go. At first, Mr. Friedkin commissioned a score from Mr. Lalo Schifrin, the man behind Mission Impossible theme, Dirty Harry soundtrack, and more. Schifrin came up with what was described as a very disturbing piece of music, a piece that was strongly rejected, but still made its way to the film's advanced trailer. As Dangerous Minds reports, the trailer caused the audience to vomit and have seizures, as the mixture of Lalo's music and upsetting flashing images turned out to be too much for the crowd. The composer told Score Magazine about the whole matter: The truth is that it was one of the most unpleasant experiences of my life, but I have recently read that in order to triumph in your life, you may previously have some fails. What happened is that the director, William Friedkin, hired me to write the music for the trailer, six minutes were recorded for the Warner's edition of the trailer. The people who saw the trailer reacted against the film, because the scenes were heavy and frightening, so most of them went to the toilet to vomit. The trailer was terrific, but the mix of those frightening scenes and my music, which was also a very difficult and heavy score, scared the audiences away. So, the Warner Brothers executives said Friedkin to tell me that I must write less dramatic and softer score. I could easily and perfectly do what they wanted because it was way too simple in relevance to what I have previously written, but Friedkin didn't tell me what they said. I'm sure he did it.

These six “demons” are from the film “ The exorcism of Emily Rose”. Although all the names are found in the Bible, the idea that they are six demons is not biblical. Cain was the son of Adam and Eve. He killed his brother Abel and was consequently punished. ( Genesis ). Nero was emperor of Rome from AD54 to AD68. He is famous for his tyranny, extravagance and immorality. He is mentioned in Acts ; 26:32; 27:24; 28:19 and Philippians 4:22. His persecutions of the Christians are referred to in 1 Peter 1:6. Judas was one of the disciples of Jesus. He betrayed Jesus ( Mark ) and later killed himself ( Matthew ). Legion was the name an insane man that Jesus healed had given himself ( Mark ). Legion means “many” and the man thought he was inhabited by many demons. Belial means “worthless”. There was an ancient Jewish myth about a demon called Belial. This myth is probably the basis of Paul’s comment in 2 Corinthians 6:15. Lucifer is a Latin word meaning “morning star” or Venus. In Isaiah 14:12, the king of Babylon is described as the morning star. The KJV translates this as Lucifer, which has misled many people into thinking the passage is referring to a supernatural force of evil.
