Human Performance Improvement ( HPI) HPI is a powerful tool that helps one to step back, look at the big picture and make fundamental improvements in processes - both physical and mental. The lab has begun an initiative to deploy HPI as part of our efforts to improve efficiency, productivity and ES& H. The primary effort will be to employ these ideas in the areas of hazard identification and mitigation, incident assessments and procedures. We are using HPI to investigate injuries, have implemented it in the FESS OPs, and we are using FESS Ops to help train others in applying HPI to their work. We are encouraging people to use HPI to look at their daily work and, certainly, when something goes wrong, use HPI to improve the process. Over 200 people have been trained in HPI at the lab now.
